After being given an ultimatum by her parents, Tori Banks decided she’d rather run away from her demanding Beverly Hills family than give into their demands. She’s never fit in with their lifestyle and growing up hasn’t been easy for her. Part of the problem is the recurring nightmares linked to killers, or so she thinks, until they come back again, years later in full force. When a friend asks Tori to speak with a police detective, he blasts her with his negative talk without giving her the benefit of the doubt and she blasts right back at him regarding his bad behavior towards her.
When Detective Guy Breauchard meets Tori, its love at first site and he doesn’t handle it well, especially since he brought a date with him, to question Tori. He gets a nasty attitude with her because he doesn’t believe she’s telling the truth, since it goes against everything he was taught at the academy. Because of her doubts, it kept him on his guard every time she tried to sabotage their time together and he would become very angry, not understanding why. One thing he was grateful for was that he would be protecting and supportive for her when the screams from the nightmares ended.
Linked is a great story about a heroine and hero who had so many bumps in the road that they were traveling down and the focus of the killers finding her that it was a little distracting. With two murderers traveling cross-country to get to her, killing “for her” as they put it, and linking with her so she can see every one of the murders. I found myself wanted to shake Tori because of her deep insecurities from childhood to young adult. It was very frustrating for me when she would deliberately start second guessing herself or Guy, who only wanted to protect and love her.
This story was centered on two main characters, but with a twist of a psychic connection that wasn’t a good one. Barbara Huffert did a fabulous job of describing the scenes well and kept me trying to figure out how long before the main three people involved would finally meet. As written, the book is a little too long for me, and I would have preferred to know a little more about why the two men were worshiping Tori, and why they communicated only with her.

I love Barbara Huffert's work. And how wonderful the hero in her story was there to hold her after those hideous dreams.
