A few minutes turns into a much longer stay where Cooper finds friends, acceptance, and love. It’s been a tough road filled with painful memories, but Cooper finds something good to focus on. Someone accepts him regardless of his emotional or physical scars. That someone is Shawn.
Shawn is a deaf college student and one of Cooper’s co-workers. His expressive eyes and heartwarming smile tear down Cooper’s walls. This will be Cooper’s first experience with truly unconditional love. With their eyes shining brightly and focusing on their future together, Cooper gets a wakeup call from someone in his past, bringing his euphoric existence comes to an abrupt halt. Will they find their way back on the road to happiness, or is Cooper doomed to wallow in the pain from his past?
Z.A. Maxfield takes us on a journey in St. Nacho’s. Cooper has so much baggage that I was surprised he was able to finally relax for a moment and just breathe. At one point, I felt his pain and loneliness, his desire for love and his fear that he didn’t deserve it. And, I was thankful Shawn had the tenacity to hold on tight and fight for their love. Regardless of Shawn’s handicap, he was truly the stronger of the two men. He always shows Cooper his worth, lending strength, and removing the crutches that Cooper used to keep himself mentally crippled. This is a fantastic story and I have definitely added Z.A. Maxfield to my must read list. St. Nacho’s will touch on your emotions and with characters that will make you smile, laugh, dance, and cry.
